Cabo San Lucas
stands majestically at the
confluence of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortes. Once a quiet
fishing town with dusty streets and smelly canneries, it has now
become the Los Cabos center of tourism. Dramatic cliffs plunge into
warm azure waters, and golden sands glisten along the coastline.
Cabo San Lucas is definitely one of the “in” places, where even
budget travelers can delight in such treats as fabulous fish tacos,
relaxing on the beach and a nonstop flow of margaritas! The city is
famous for its sport fishing, and other recreation includes
snorkeling, surfing, parasailing, horseback riding, whale watching
and golf. The Playa Medano, just north of town, is the most popular
stretch in Los Cabos (and possibly in all of Baja) for sunbathing
and people watching. The El Arco, a natural rock arch that is
visible from the marina, is one of the most impressive sights in
Cabo. Take a short boat ride out to the arch to fully appreciate it.
The Lighthouse of the False Cape, built in 1890, is set amid sand
dunes on the cliffs above the Pacific. Many hotels can arrange off
road vehicle tours of the lighthouse. For fabulous shopping, visit
the Handicrafts Market and Plaza Amelia Wilkes, a very pretty square
with a white wrought iron gazebo, shops, art galleries and
restaurants. The nightlife in Cabo is legendary, with many clubs and
bars located on Cardenas and Blvd. Marina, which becomes a huge
laser-lit party ground at night. With all of this, Cabo San Lucas
has remained a friendly town, even as it continues to grow and
prosper.

Weather & Climate
The
stretch of land immediate
south of California between the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of
California is Baja California, Mexico ("Baja" means "Lower.") The
weather here can be divided into two distinct categories: hot
deserts and cooler near the oceans. Arid or semiarid conditions are
present on the Baja Peninsula and rainy days are rare outside of the
'rainy season' September through December, which is why many golfers
come here to play. Storms that do occur in summertime are short, but
most of them pass by to the south. Summers are quite warm with very
little humidity; winters have near perfect weather. June through
September is hurricane season, but hurricanes on the Pacific are
much less likely than storms on the Gulf of Mexico.
